My unstructured upbringing, and cares to the wind attitude, led to my frequent incarceration, from childhood to adulthood, it’s a disturbing story, which is primarily aimed at the adult reading audience, who enjoy reading about reality situations and crime. I have always been a reader, and to a large extent, that helped me become a self taught person. Born on the banks of the Colorado River in Arizona, and raised up in the Marcos De Niza barrio projects in South Phoenix, I experienced the injustices of the cotton fields, Maricopa County Juvenile Detention Home, and Arizona State Industrial School at Fort Grant, Arizona. I wandered the desperate streets of Los Angeles, and the forlorn railroad tracks, alone, like a lost person without a purpose in life. I was locked up in the jails of Phoenix, and Los Angeles, before winding up in the California State penitentiary system. Upon my release, I struggled to stay out of the pen, and took the jobs that society at large would never want to take. Through numerous personal tragedies, incarcerations, and unfortunate circumstances, I lost control of my life. No one was ever able to change my destructive behavior. The changes when they occurred came from within me, when I could no longer cope, with the situations I had cast my self into. Looking back, I can now see what I couldn’t see, during those hopeless time periods. I was very fortunate, to finally be able to leave that life behind me, through relationships that believed in me, and successfully worked, and built myself a civil service work career, from which I retired. I now spend my days enjoying life’s simple pleasures, after all my previous tragic missteps. My objective in life now, is to become an accomplished writer.

Following a magical season that ended in Super Bowl glory, one of the NFL’s biggest stars delivers a no-holds-barred, hardhitting hitting account of life in the league. Michael Strahan is one of the NFL’s most talented players, and he is also one of the game’s most vocal personalities. In Inside the Helmet, Strahan exposes all of the pressure, pain, and glory of life in the NFL, venturing into territory no previous football author has had the nerve to tread. Bringing the reader right into the middle of the action, Strahan recounts exhilarating victories and reveals the hair-raising details of the ruthless grit required for every win. He gives an honest account of the brutality on the field and the myriad injuries from which he continues to suffer. He describes the relationships among teammates (including an account of his well publicized feuding with Tiki Barber), the practical jokes players use to preserve their sanity and the violent blow-ups that occur when the pressure gets too intense, and the challenges of taking orders from head coach Tom Coughlin and his squadron of assistant coaches. Strahan also writes about dealing with the relentless media coverage, rabid and demanding fans, and the struggle to live up to a multimillion-dollar salary. Finally, in two new chapters for the paperback edition, Strahan writes about the ups and downs of a truly sensational 2007 season that saw the Giants overcome the odds to win the Super Bowl. For the millions of rabid NFL fans, Inside the Helmet is an all-access pass into the huddle, the locker room, and the minds of the warriors on the field.

This book is a personal journey that is at once an adventure, a tragedy, a comedy, and an insightful look at the connection between the environment and the fragility of life. The story chronicles the day-to-day challenges and revelations of life with a chronic health condition (chemical sensitivities). It examines the recovery and emerging new life that arises from a personally unique experience. Written by a landscape architect and artist, the story reveals and examines the unique northern New England physical and cultural landscape where the story unfolds. More than just an account of developing and managing an illness, the book documents the daily journey of the author who sees and relates the havoc a chemically polluted planet is causing personally and universally, while providing an eloquent, poignant and sometimes humorous glimpse of the natural and cultural world around him, which eventually serves as the vessel for physical and spiritual healing. As a result of new and possibly tainted building materials installed in his home and office during a renovation project , the author became increasingly symptomatic and ill, culminating in a severe reaction to most common chemicals. Literally chased room to room throughout his home, his attempt to find a place to work by day and sleep by night proved futile. In only few weeks this mysterious condition struck with unexpected swiftness, producing devastating chronic symptoms and significant life changes, not the least of which was forcing him permanently outdoors. While trying to maintain a semblance of family life and a business, he lived and worked at various points in a garage, a tent, an abandoned apartment and a garden shed. The experience of having to restructure his life, essentially from the inside out, became a personal journey. The process was painful, slow and unpredictable. The bad days seemed endless. But along with the pain, isolation, and fear, he found strength, courage, humor, and healing. The experience allowed him to see himself as a far more independent and self-reliant being than he had previously realized, and an integral part of a much larger, co-dependent environment. Immersed in the landscape with a newfound inner reliance, seeking health from an insidious illness, the author sets out to reinvent his life.

After successfully completing his 12,000 mile bus ride around America, Shaun Donovan now embarks on his latest and greatest challenge - to circumnavigate the coastline of Australia, again by bus, but also to ride the famous 'Indian Pacific' and 'Ghan' trains from west to east and south to north of this vast continent - A 20,000 kilometre journey which must be completed in less than 50 days. In a compelling story of determination, desperation and in some cases deprivation, read how Shaun and his fiancée, Sally are roasted alive in sizzling heat and stifling humidity, get drowned-out in tropical storms and flash-flooding and survive an onslaught of electrifying lightning bolts, devastating cyclones and bone-shaking earthquakes before their journey is finally at an end. Add to this a lethal concoction of shark, stingray, and snake attacks they stumble upon during their trip and mix it up with crocodile, box jelly-fish, blue-ringed octopus and deadly stone-fish encounters and you've got yourself one hell of a story-line to tell. Like his American voyage of discovery, many things were learned and achieved, but there was also despair as his dreams of scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef and visiting Ayres Rock were shattered due to weather conditions and personal circumstances, both of which he swears will be done on his return to one of the most diverse and exciting continents on the planet. In this inspiring memoir, Dewey Bozella recounts his life and the twenty-six years he spent behind bars for a murder he did not commit—a stirring tale of courage, strength, faith, and perseverance. In the late 1970s, Dewey Bozella was wrongfully accused of murdering Emma Crapser, a ninety-two-year-old resident of Poughkeepsie, New York. Sentenced to twenty years to life in prison, Bozella fiercely maintained his innocence throughout his ordeal at Sing Sing, and even refused the prosecutor’s offer of instant freedom in exchange for admission of guilt. But in 2009, more than a quarter century later, Dewey Bozella would reclaim his identity and his humanity when his conviction was vacated. In this powerful memoir, Bozella tells his harrowing and amazing story—interweaving his time in prison with stories of a childhood marked by violence and pain. He shares the joys of marrying the love of his life from behind bars, becoming a champion boxer, and earning his education; the agony of being denied parole four times, and living in a cellblock with his brother’s murderer and, eventually, the killer whose thumbprint was found in Emma Crapser’s apartment. Yet the fighter in Bozella never gave up. He would become a free man thanks to his undying faith, stalwart persistence, the aid of the Innocence Project, and Wilmer Hale, the Park Avenue law firm whose young pro bono attorney doggedly worked toward his release when all hope seemed lost. Today, Bozella considers himself blessed. Stand Tall is a testament to optimism and love. It is the compelling story of a man who fought against inequity and hardship and, against all odds, came out on top.

Paint with passion, purpose and pleasure. What do you want your landscape painting to say about this place, this moment? How do you use the visual vocabulary - line, shape, value, color, edges - to say it? With this book, your conversation with nature will direct your brush. With an exhilarating, synergistic combination of indoor and outdoor painting, Kevin Macpherson shows you how to create personal, poetic landscapes that capture the feeling of being there. Learn how to: Use a limited palette in a way that is more liberating than limiting. Experience nature to the fullest and capture its vibrancy back in the studio through photos, sketches and outdoor studies. Cope with the fleeting qualities of atmosphere and light by establishing a value plan early and sticking with it. Incorporate impressionistic touches of broken color to give your landscape a depth and vibrancy that enhances its realism. Approach painting as a layering and corrective process that encourages non-formulaic solutions. Stimulating warm-up exercises in the studio prepare you for your adventures outside, while eight step-by-step demonstrations show you how to put these methods into action. Throughout, Macpherson's own light-filled landscapes illustrate the power of these techniques. Full of fresh air and fresh art, Landscape Painting Inside and Out will guide and encourage beginners while challenging more accomplished artists to bring greater vitality and a more natural, less formulaic finish to their paintings.

Agent Storm - My Life Inside al-Qaeda by Morten Storm Morten Storm was an unlikely Jihadist. A 6'1" red-haired Dane, Storm spent his teens with a biker gang or in jail. But after converting to Islam he embarked on a transformation that led from a militant madrassa in Yemen to a close friendship with Anwar al-Awlaki, the American-born cleric who would emerge as al-Qaeda's greatest threat to the West. Then Storm's story took another dramatic twist. He lost his faith and was recruited by the CIA, MI6 and MI5, becoming a double agent. His ultimate mission: to bring down his mentor al-Awlaki. This is the searing memoir of a man who sought purpose in a community of believers before rejecting their extremist ideology. In a quest for atonement he lived undercover for five years, travelling the world to complete high profile missions. As well as single-handedly thwarting multiple terrorist attacks, he led the intelligence services to some of al-Qaeda's most dangerous terrorists, all the while knowing his own life was expendable. Agent Storm takes readers inside the Jihadist world like never before, showing the daily life of zealous men set on mass murder: from dodging drones with al-Qaeda leaders in the Arabian desert to Jihadist gyms in Birmingham. It also gives a rare look inside the world's most powerful spy agencies, including their tradecraft, after-hours carousing - and their ruthless use of a beautiful blonde in a honey trap. Filled with hair-raising close calls, coded messages and chilling duplicity, Agent Storm is a captivating real-life thriller.

Forty years of an exciting life, until the day everything changes abruptly. The accident, which obliges Emmanuel, a professional motorcycle pilot, and a motorcyclist in the national police, to leave the world of valid people and join the handicapped world. In parallel, before the accident, during his coma and even afterwards, some mysterious signs appear and interfere in his life. Chance or synchronicity? Were these signs meant to warn him? Was the accident planned? In order to slow his life down, or make it take a different turn? Through his story, you will discover the hidden face of the daily life of a paraplegic, with all his suffering, psychological and physical, as well as the different steps in his reconstruction, full of obstacles and setbacks. EXCERPT It was 3 o’clock in the morning, on 22nd February 2013, and the alarm clock was ringing. It was time to get up, to serve and represent the French Republic. As every other week, on Friday morning, I turned into a night bird. I drove to Toulouse Central Police Station, where I slipped into my show costume, or should I say my National Police motorcyclist outfit. I joined my colleagues for the regular alcohol level tests, and we all departed together for a precise location, in order to set up the device. That morning, like many other mornings, our spot was located at the Ponts-Jumeaux, a very good place for “catching” drunken road delinquents. My mission was simple – when I say my mission, it was more the motorcyclist’s mission: chasing the naughty drivers who refused to submit to the test, or sometimes even just drove straight into the police roadblock. This mission was one I particularly enjoyed. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Born in 1973, Emmanuel Siaux was a motorcyclist in the French national police for twenty years, France Road Rallye Champion and Team Manager of the French National Police Motorcyclist team. On the eve of his fortieth birthday, an accident on duty confines him to a wheelchair, obliging him to face a new challenge: the long road to reconstruction and learning to live as a paraplegic.
